No. Surf Family's Beginner program is for people who are just starting out or can't yet surf on their own. Your coach stays with you in the water for the whole session, working on paddling, take-off, safety, line-up etiquette and wave selection.

Surf Family has three levels. Beginner is for those starting out or not yet surfing independently. Intermediate is for those who already surf but still need support in the water. Advanced is for those who surf independently and want to refine their technique with filmed sessions and video analysis. If you're unsure, message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you choose.

Sunscreen, swimwear, and a towel. Surf equipment is included.

Yes. All the surf equipment needed for the class is included.

Definitely! In summer, we run Kids classes, designed especially for children with a teaching approach different from the one we use with adults. Classes are open from age 6, as long as the child can already swim. For children under 10, we ask that a parent or guardian stay for the entire class.

Surf Family lessons last 1.5 hours: about 30 minutes of theory and 1 hour of practice in the water, with your coach throughout the session.

Surf Family works with small groups to ensure safety and close guidance: up to 5 students per coach at Beginner level, and up to 4 students per coach in the Intermediate groups.

The Surf Family team speaks Portuguese, basic English and basic Spanish, which also makes it easier to welcome students from abroad.

Both. Surf Family offers single classes as well as monthly training packages, so you can try one lesson during a trip or train regularly if you live in Florianópolis.

A single lesson at Surf Family costs between R$145 and R$160, depending on the option you choose. There are also monthly plans at special rates for Florianópolis residents.

Surf Family accepts card, Pix and cash, and also offers online payment, so you can sort everything out in advance and don't have to worry about paying at the lesson.

For students living in Floripa, we offer monthly packages at special rates. Payment works as a subscription, charged automatically to your card (or Pix, if needed). You book the available classes during the month around your own schedule.

You can cancel or reschedule up to 12 hours before your scheduled time. If you don't show up without prior notice, the class will be deducted from your package as usual, except in emergencies.

In the Beginner and Intermediate programs, yes: your Surf Family coach is in the water with you. In the Advanced program the coach watches from the sand and films the session, because the training is built on video analysis.

Your session is filmed, then you and your coach watch it together to spot patterns and technical details that are hard to notice while you're surfing. You leave with specific exercises and a personalized plan for the next session. It's the core of Surf Family's Advanced program and Surf Training.

Yes. Longboarding is one of Surf Family's disciplines, taught at every level, from your first waves on a longboard to the classic style, fluid lines and clean cross-steps of advanced longboarders.

Yes: Surf Like a Girl, created by pro surfer Marina Rezende of the Surf Family. It's women's surf training with monthly plans, filming, technical analysis and an exclusive community, for women taking their first steps or refining their maneuvers. See surflikeagirlteam.com.

The Surf Academy is Surf Family's complementary training for progressing faster, in and out of the water: supervised ocean swimming, online video lessons on the fundamentals of surfing, and surf-specific physical training for strength, mobility, endurance and balance.

For beginners, yes, except during the tainha (mullet) fishing season, when surfing is restricted on some beaches for the traditional fishing. For intermediate and advanced surfers, Surf Family also has options at different beaches around the island of Florianópolis.

Yes. Surf Family was the first surf school on the island of Florianópolis to operate all year round, winter included, and still does.

You can learn to surf all year round in Florianópolis, and each season has its strengths. In summer the water is warmer and the days are sunny, but there are fewer waves and the beaches are busier. In winter, despite the lower temperatures, surf days are calmer and less crowded, and a good wetsuit takes care of the cold. Autumn and spring are our favourite seasons, with a great balance of conditions, temperature and crowds.

Yes. Surf Family's surf hostel is a surf house 100 metres from Barra da Lagoa beach, with private or shared rooms and surf + stay packages. Beds are limited, so book ahead for summer.

Yes. Surf de Bem is Surf Family's former name: same family, same school, same place in Barra da Lagoa, Florianópolis.

Since 2000. Surf Family started with a beach tent and a surfboard in Barra da Lagoa and has since taught more than 50,000 students, refining its methodology for over 25 years.

Yes. Surf Family is an accredited school with a technical lead certified by CREF (Brazil's regional council for physical-education professionals), registration CREF SC-5012.

Surf Family's coaches are led by the family itself. Josué Rezende, the head coach, has a degree and postgraduate degree in Physical Education and more than 30 years of coaching. Valéria De Bem, one of the pioneering women surf teachers in Florianópolis, has taught for more than 25 years. Marina Rezende is a professional surfer and the creator of Surf Like a Girl.
